This is a J.G. Mosier No. 24 Front Bent Spoon Gouge 3/16 Inch Wood Carving Chisel Tool
This great 1700s era Wood Carving Chisel is 8 inches long with a 3/16-inch-wide No. 24 Front Bent Spoon Gouge blade. It is an early hand-forged tool, so I had to match up the profile, as it is not marked with any carving chisel number. The blade is etched “J.G.Mosier” in script letters, which I assume was James G. Mosier a 1760s Royal British woodworking craftsman.
The hardwood handle is in with unusual “leopard spotted” wood grain, a rare copper ferrrule, light signs of use, and uniform color with no damage whatsoever.The steel blade is shiny clean with just expected signs of age, and a sharp edge ready to fine hone and put to work. It came in a group of 128 super Marples, Addis, and other top maker wood carving chisels I recently acquired from a working woodshop that I will be listing in the coming months. A stellar Wood Chisel that would be a special additon to any wood tool collection or evern for serious wood carving.
My chisels are always in clean, sharp, ready-to-use condition without damaged wood handles that you’d have to repair. So be careful of some shark-like tool sellers on who would have you pay higher prices for lower quality wood chisels.
