A most unusual example of an early Forged Iron axe head, similar to those illustrated in Neumann’s book on the subject.
As you can see in this case the piece had a round eye socket made by simply forming over the end of the iron into a wrap around shape, a primitive piece indeed.
Some pitting from age, else a solid example that would look great in any Rev War period collection. Measures 6 1/2" in length.
