A rare reclining antique Poe-Tai Ho-shang with a soft smile and a gentile face (a good indication of the old porcelains) & surrounded with children……..brought into Hawaii during the turn of the century, pre-Republic Period. Â It is very unusual to find a laughing Buddha in the reclined position, also note the slight dip in his tummy toward the belly button, and curled toes. Â In fine old condition with a seal chop that we cannot read as it is in Chinese characters. Â He measures approximately 7 3/8″ x 7″ x 4 1/2″. Please see photos for details. Laughing Buddha is also known as Matereiya and legend has it that nothing would make him happier than to see all problems and sadness transformed into happiness. It is also said that he brings happiness to wherever he goes…and known as a symbol of wealth. Rub his abundant belly to bring wealth, good luck and prosperity into the home. He holds a sack of gold treasures.
Auspicious location. Many feng shui consultants recommend placing this Buddha opposite the main front door of your home on a table that is about 30″ high. This location allows happy Buddha to interact with the chi energy entering your home. From this position he can neutralize any negative chi and transform it from damaging to very lucky energy.
