This auction is for a beautiful antique pair of Chinese foot binding slippers. These lotus style shoes were made to be worn by the ladies whose feet were cruelly bound and crippled as children, to remain as small as possible. Having small, narrow feet was considered beautiful and dainty, despite the immense pain this custom caused. These slippers were hand made and have delicate gold thread embroidery. They only measure approximately 5 inches, which is amazing when you realize these would have been for an adult woman. The slippers are in good condition but they both have fraying at the top edge of the shoes. There are also some light discoloration spots. There is a 1/4″ tear on the blue fabric on one shoe. They do not look like they were ever worn. they are still attached together with a piece of thread. Please email me .
