1930’s “Heavenly Stars” Feed Sack Antique Quilt w/Provenance

Day after day the pattern grew Each block was deftly set in place,

And rows of tiny stitches tell A tale that time cannot efface.

Of patience, skill, housewifely pride, Of women’s love for pretty things,

Of fingers trained such work to do By those who know the joy it brings,

Of time within the home well spent, The heart with homely tasks content.

This fantastic quilt was made in the 1930’s by Mrs. Martha Belle Weaver.  I’ve spent hours trying to research her DOB & DOD & all I could find was that she married in 1898.  I’ve owned this quilt for many years but those of you who buy from me often know my rule…. If I buy one more quilt, I have to give up one & this is the one!  The pattern is called Heavenly Stars. I just love all of the colors and prints; and every time I look at it, I can find a different design or pattern.  This fantastic quilt measures 78″ x 76″ & is in extremely good condition. All of the fabrics are feedsack fabrics & there is sooooo much piecing in this quilt!  It was pieced completely by hand.  Every color you can think of is in this quilt, shades of blue, greens, reds, oranges, green, pink & purple from small calicoes to larger floral prints, & pretty solids.  I do need to say that my camera does not do these colors justice, especially the cornflower calico yellow scaloped border…. maybe poor photography skills?  There are no rips, tears, holes, no fraying.  There are 2 little places on the back where the unbleached muslin back is coming loose & there are a couple stains on the back…. NONE on the front!

The scalloped border was quilted in 1″ lines that follow the shape of the border.  Every single piece in the body of the quilt was quilted inside the piece in like shape… all with tiny, even stitching ~ 9 SPI!

I hate to give this one up but I think if I have one more quilt ladder made for this house…. who knows what’ll happen.  It’s always so hard to sel what you collect, but that’s the beauty of it.  I hope the new owner will enjoy this quilt as much as I have.

Please take a look at the other quilts I have listed.  I’m always happy to combine shipping for you.

About Me: It all started when I was a little girl…. Gramma gave Mom a piece of Flow Blue that had been in our family then she would pass it on to me. Gramma knitted, crocheted, & quilted but being a “lefty”, I could never get the hang of knitting or crocheting so I learned to quilt & applique. My love of quilts & antiques comes honestly. I still collect but I’ve had to set new rules for myself… “If I buy one more quilt, one has to be sold”. There’s just not enough room anymore!

Four years ago I decided to leave a 25 year career in Human Resources Management & do something for myself… spend more time with family & friends, garden when this Ohio weather allows, & hunt for quilts, vintage clothing & hats, & other antiques.
