You’re a very beautiful bone handle dagger from the 1800’s. The OAL is 9 1/2″ and the carbon steel blade is 4 3/4″ long. The hand guard is brass and the pommel is the “ball” of the bone that fits in the socket. The bone has aged and is a very deep creme/coffee color and is very smooth. It has that soft sheen that comes over a long period of time. The patina on the blade has been gently buffed. The blade and handle have no nicks, gings, or chips and the blade is in great shape. Old daggers were not used for hunting years ago – this is a fighting knife. I could envision some riverboat gambler carrying this concealed in his vest. I know that this knife is cool because Kathie thought it was gross and wouldn’t even touch it…LOL. She can’t understand why I love knives.
