ANTIQUE VICTORIAN ENGRAVED STERLING SILVER LARGE OVAL LOCKET NO RESERVE
Description
This is a gorgeous and very substantial Victorian hand engraved silver oval locket in very good vintage condition . The locket is decorated with beautiful hand engraving in foliate scrolls and overlaid with repousse stars or flowers either side of an intricately meshed central strip, totally plain on the back .
Inside are both slip frames and two perfect bevelled glass panels. The locket was originally gilded over the silver but only traces of this still remain on the outside.
Unusually stamped on the bail ‘Standard Silver’ something i have not seen before , there is also a makers mark S B.

The locket measures 4.2 by 3.5 cms or 1 & 5/8 by 1 & 3/8, a nice sized locket to wear on a book chain.
Weight is 29 grams including the glass. Condition is good for such an old piece. The back of the bail is not attached but I don’t know if that was how it was made , please check the photo below.
