19th 19th C. Antique Littlefield Parsons & Co. Daguerreotype Union Case Thermoplastic

Exceptional Littlefield, Parsons & Co. thermoplastic or gutta percha case with an ambrotype of a young man holding a child on his lap.
The beautiful high relief union case features a cupid holding a sickle in a tree, with a ladder propped against it. The high relief case appears to depict a farm scene, as there are
also three chickens and a goat present. The crisp detail is outstanding for a
thermoplastic case made between the 1850’s to 1860’s. There is a little bit of
wear at the highest point of the relief. The rich wine red velvet on the interior
left side of the case has a decorative fine cut velvet pattern. The glass plate ambrotype is in good overall condition with some wear that is visible in the above close-up photos.
Behind the glass plate ambrotype is the original Littlefield, Parsons & Co. paper
backing. The case is in good condition aside from two tiny chips on the hinged side of the case. The case closes firmly and securely and measures 3
3/4″ x 3 1/2″ when closed.
