Vintage Japanese NECNTP Transistor Radio Antique 195556

Vintage Japanese NECNTP Transistor Radio Antique 195556

Vintage NEC-NT-P ‘Glassback’ Transistor Radio, Japanese, Ultra-rare
Radio has a clear back cover, probably to prove it was indeed all transistor and there were no hidden tubes. This was NEC’s first model of radio, and judging by the back clear cover that says “NT-  P” assume it stands for prototype or promotion. Nippon Electric Company is molded in clear plastic before they abbreviated their name to NEC. We originally thought it was some long lost Sony TR-55 because of it’s shape and size, but it is in fact a very early NEC. We couldn’t find anything published or on the internet out about this radio but would guess the first generation 1955 or possibly 1956.
Radio features a two tone plastic shell (Gray and clear) tuning and volume dial, original brackets for the 6x AA battery compartment, original pig skin case with matching strap and earphone compartment, and original earphone. Radio is in good condition, especially considering it’s age. The clear back shell has a few cracks and very small chips, while the front has only slight spots and light surface scratches. Internals look good, and seem to be 100% intact. The leather case and strap look barely used, and have preserved well. Radio is uncleaned, and untested.
