VERY, VERY RARE …. United States Lighthouse Service
REFILL OIL CAN!
This Lighthouse “light” refill oil can was used by my Grandfather who was one of the last men to serve on the “Crib” in Lake Michigan. His years of dedicated service as a lighthouse keeper were on both sides of Lake Michigan and included the North Manitou Lighthouse, Point AuSable Light, and the lights in Sturgeon Bay and Manitowoc, Wisconsin. It was made in New Jersey at the U.S. Lighthouse depot supply in the early part of the 1800’s.
Made of solid brass, by hand, this oil container is more a work of sculpture than an oil container.
Look at the detail and great care that was employed in forging this unique and beautiful piece. It was made to last a life time and has done that, and more! The proportions of this piece are stunning. This is a beautifully hand-made piece, whose quality is unmatched. The maker’s mastery of design and function are evident from every angle. The container has no odor; it has long ago served its original purpose.
“A fantastic work of sculpture,”… is really the only way to describe this rare and unique piece of Great Lakes lighthouse history.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to own this fantastic piece of ART and “LIGHTHOUSE” history!!!
I reserve the right to end the auction early if the bid do not reflect the true market value of this unique item!
