Description: Fine decorative and detailed copper engraved unusual chart of ancient Ireland, including also western coast of England and Scotland. Map shows a lot of topographical details as well as cities, rivers, lakes, mountains. The map includes an inset chart entitled “Thule et Orcades”. Map adorned with a strapwork cartouche.

Conditions: Very strong and dark impression on thin paper. Paper with chains. Uncolored as issued. Wide margin to the top. Wide lower margin. Wide right lateral margin. Short left lateral margin. Small foxing and browning. Small holes. Conditions are as you can see in the images.
Mapmaker: Philippe Briet (Abbeville 1601 – Paris 1668) has been a french jesuit, writer and mapmaker. His Parallela Geographiae Veteris et Novae (3 vols., 1648-49) summarize the results of a century of geographical discoveries, emphasizing the contribution of the Jesuit missions.
