Antique Gold Brocade w/Stones BISHOP’S MITRE Pretiosa Catholic OMI N.W.T, Canada
Description
Antique Gold Brocade w/ Stones BISHOP’S MITRE or Pretiosa from Catholic OMIs N.W.T., Canada
is an antique Bishop’s Mitre or Pretiosa in a gold brocade with glass stones, brocade and embroidery. This came from one of the OMI mission’s in the N.W.T. of Canada.
This has been worn and is an antique piece, dating from the early 1900s. My dad collected this from his best friend who was an Oblate Missionary in the N.W.T., now retired and in his 90s.
Features gorgeous brocade and embroidery with gold thread. Many symbolic images, stunning antique piece.
This lovely, one of a kind piece, that has a couple of issues – note that the inside leather sweatband has some sweat stains and wear marks. There are some wear spots on the 2 pieces that hang down (see pics). There is also a stone missing (green, likely), but, overall, this is an outstanding piece and an amazing piece of OMI history and the embroidery with the gold thread and stones is exquisite. I’m assuming that these are simulated or glass gemstones.
A great item for those who collect vintage religious artifacts. My dad collected a lot of these types of items from his friend over the years and a number of them have been sold here.
I have many pieces remaining, including more Mitre’s as well as robes, etc.
Dimensions: the length (horizontally) along the bottom edge is 11 1/4". The height or how long the pretoisa is is 10 1/2" not including the tip. The total length from the tip to the bottom of the fringe is 27". Across from point to point is 13". The inside fabric is red and is in very good condition.
All of my religious artifacts were collected by my dad. His best friend was a Roman Catholic OMI missionary in the NWT in Canada. My dad collected these things directly from him. Our emphasis is on artifacts of the plains, plateau, sub-arctic and arctic. Our native items have been featured on the Canadian Antiques Roadshow and the prestigious auction house Bonhams and Butterfields in San Francisco sold some of our items. All of our items are authentic and genuine.
I’ll be listing more religious items in the coming days, please click here to see more listings.
