Offered with no reserve is a choice Hamilton Grade 992E 16 Size railroad pocket watch, with 21 jewels in screwed down gold settings, gold center wheel, gold inlaid engraving, and Hamilton’s patented elinvar hairspring with temperature invariant modulus of elasticity. The movement is marked “Double Roller,” and “Adjusted 5 Positions” on the plates, and “Elinvar” on the pallet bridge. It runs strong and true. The watch features a perfect double sunk dial signed “Hamilton Railway Special.”The attractive 10K gold filled, bar-over-crown case by Wadsworth is smooth polished with a triple-beveled edge. There is very little wear and no brass shows. However, there is one small flat spot near the center of the rear lid, and the underside of the lid shows evidence of a repair in that location. (The bezel was removed in the dial picture to eliminate glare. It is flawless.)
The Grade 992 was Hamilton’s most successful railroad watch, and the Model 992E with Hamilton’s advanced, patented elinvar hairspring is a scarcer and more collectable variety.
