Antique Vintage 1 orphan PRIMITIVE Original pattern Quilt Block. Originally from the Lancaster, Pa. close to Baltimore, Md. area. c1840-1860.
Size: approx. 15 inches square or 21 inches on point.
COLOR: POISON GREEN print fabric with a small yellow dots and black figure as described in the book DATING FABRICS by EILEEN JAHNKE TRESTAIN in the 1830-1860 section.
This RARE quilt block is all Hand-appliqued using teeny tiny tan stitches (see the back in pix #12). It has been removed from a quilt top as there are tell-tale threads left along the edge as in pix #3. All 4 corners are shown in pix #4 to #7.
Excellent condition, the block has an aged patina. The fabric of the quilt block is strong and sturdy. There are NO spots, stains, foxing, holes, loose seams, or damage of any kind. I assume this block has never been laundered. I have not washed or pressed.
Fantastic representation of EARLY APPLIQUE. Pattern unknown, I welcome suggestions.

Also please note, that along the edges is evidence that this block was removed from a top. There are stitch holes 1/4 inch in from the side. A selvedge is on one side.
