JAPANESE ANTIQUE 150 YEAR OLD BUDDHIST SHRINE WOODEN LACQUER GOLD ALTAR TABLE

JAPANESE ANTIQUE 150 YEAR OLD BUDDHIST SHRINE WOODEN LACQUER GOLD ALTAR TABLE

JAPANESE

This is a special Buddhist shrine altar table made of solid cryptomeria wood with a black lacquer finish with a gold overlay.  It would have been used to place offerings within the traditional Japanese family shrine (butsudan). The tray on top could be removed, to make it easier to arrange the offerings before placing it back onto the table. It dates to the late Edo Period (c. 1860).

The stand measures 8 3/4″ long by 4 3/4″ high by 4″ deep (22 x 12 x 10 cm). It has been well used yet well loved in a Japanese family shrine. In the enlarged pictures you can see that the removeable top tray has absorbed the majority of the wear leaving the actual stand in fine conditon aside from one chip in the front and overall age wear (see pictures).

The removeable top tray shows considerable wear with small dings and burns from incense sticks as well as some loss to lacquer on the bottom of the removable tray.  Please review the enlarged pictures for a detailed view of both the stand as well as the removeable top tray.

You’ll love it, I guarantee it………If you purchase this item and are not completely delighted with it, you may return it for a no questions asked refund within 14 days  of receipt.
