You are invited to bid on this antique papier mache wall hung letter rack which I estimate to date around c1880’s.
This lovely Victorian letter rack has been decorated on the front with a Swiss alpine scene of a cottage beside fir trees in a pastoral landscape with mountains in the distance. Around the back of the rack and underneath the cottage scene are pretty alpine flowers on green leafy stems. On the back of the holder is a hole to hand the rack from. It bears no makers marks and measures 7″ tall by 6.5″ wide by just under 2″ deep.
As you can see there is some wear to the decoration in places. Originally there was a scroll pattern framing the alpine scene but this is now almost worn away. There is some chipping here and there on the edges, inside and around the nail hole and some rubbing mostly to the back. There is no other damage.
