This stunning and rare, very large, solid sterling silver thimble was made by James Fenton and Co Birmingham in 1899. The hallmarks are as follows: Letters – J.F. followed by the anchor symbol for Birmingham Date letter “Z” for the year 1899 and the Lion passant. Fentons produced some stunning sterling silver thimbles for the upmarket clientele of the time. I believe this could either have been made for display in a haberdashery/manchester shop or it also could be an apprentice piece. I have not been able to ascertain this for sure. It is so unusual. The thimble also weighs in at 32grams. Thimble measures 4.75cms high x 3.75 diameter. It is in very good condition with no dings or dents. HAPPY BIDDING
