This earthenware mug made to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee Festivities at Stanton in Peak, Derbyshire c1887.
This lovely mug has been transfer printed in sepia brown colour with a wonderful clear roundel of the Queen. Around her image is the title ‘1837 – 1887 Jubilee, Queen of England, Empress of India’. Surrounding this are pretty English roses, Scottish thistles and Irish shamrock. On the back of the mug there is a crown with the following information ‘Queen Victoria Born 1819, ascended the throne 1837, Jubilee 1887, a present on the occasion of the Stanton in Peak Jubilee Festivities, June 21st 1887’. Around the rim and handle there is hand gilt highlighting. It bears no makers marks and measures just over 3″ tall by 4.25″ wide.
As you can see from the photos this mug really is in very good clean condition. The transfer decoration is bold and clear. There is a small old chip/flaw underneath the foot (see final photo) but no other damage just slight wear to the gilt highlighting on the back rim of the mug.
