This is an antique German porcelain stein in the one-third liter size. It is a character stein manufactured by E. Bohne Söhne, the Wrap Around Alligator design. The body of the alligator appears in relief on both sides of the stein, and the tail is curled in relief on the lid. There are two tiny flakes to exposed portions of the tail undersides on the lid, as shown, but they are practically invisible. No other flaws or defects; the hand painting of the alligator’s features is truly superb. Pewter strap is good and tight, as new.
