. .

I’d say it was sometime in the late 1940s the day my grandmother sat me down, showed me how to operate her apple peeler, then supervised as I peeled enough apples to make a huge pan of her famous apple cobbler. It was a magical moment. I was fascinated by how the thing worked. The next time I was that taken by anything was the night pretty little Mary Jo let me see her several years later.

This one not only clean as a whistle, it’s also in fine working condition.

Remember: If your apple peeler doesn’t work, you don’t have an apple peeler.

It’s a little dusty from sitting on top of one of my cupboards. Nice turned wooden handle, though.

The rest of the description with more pictures continues below this memo about my two “Prime Directives:”
First: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and everything starts at $9, sometimes even less. I never end auctions early.
Second: I rarely clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. Normally I push enough dust aside to note any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I’ll tell you about it.
So rest easy and have some fun. Why not place a little tiny bid right now so’s you don’t forget about it later.

I have it clamped onto an old decorated cricket stool, but it’ll screw-clamp onto anything up to 1 ¾” thick.

1878 is the patent date. I’m not sure how long Reading Hardware produced them.

The good part is yet to come.

Two handy features: First, the head is set at an angle so the peelings fall directly down into your bucket. And second: It is geared so that you can’t crank it backwards. It’d be a shame to lose your train of thought and re-peel an apple.

Now for the good part.

Pull that rascal off the prongs and take a big bite.

NO DISAPPOINTMENTS

GOOD LUCK
