GENUINE ANTIQUE

A FABULOUS chocolate lush brown velvet full length coat in exquisite Victorian fashion. The dramatic luxurious velvet is encrusted with beading in magnificent style, design and finesse.

There are 20 cloth covered buttons that button down the center front. To each side of the upper bodice are 3 elaborate beaded motifs for a total of 6 beaded embellishments. The beads glisten and glimmer in the light. The jet black glass beads are hand-sewn into beautiful floral medallion scrolls.

The sleeves have a separate fabric poof of velvet at the shoulder giving the sleeve that leg-o'-mutton look, so typical of 1893-1895 (see photo #5). At the narrow sleeve forearm are two beaded medallions and the sleeve ends with an inserted needle-lace cuff.

The inner lining is in amazing condition and has an interior back tie to draw the coat closer to the frame (see photo #9) with a five hook-an-eye insert to tighten the front close to the abdomen (see photo #8). This amazing coat flows to the floor at the ankles with the back of the coat 3" longer for a trailing effect. Center back of this marvelous velvet coat is a medallion embellishment of exquisite grandeur measuring 8" across with flowing black beaded strands (see photo #13 ).

All the buttons are present. Hoever, one button is minus the fabric covering, but is not noticeable unless looking for it. A few of the beads are starting to become loose but 98% is intact. The lining is superb! The velvet is excellent. I would rate this magnificent Victorian coat as in near MINT condition for its age of 100+ years old.
