Antique German Silver Chain Maille Purse with
Chain &
Ring Ca. 1895
This engraved
purse belonged to my Pennsylvania Dutch grandmother who was born in 1875 in
Lehigh County, Pennsylvania. That is one
of the four Pennsylvania Dutch counties.
The purse carries my grandmother’s maiden name so I assume that it
predates her marriage. I examined the
purse under magnification. I see one break in the chain maille at about 11 o’clock
above the engraved disc and another at 6 o’clock. I speculate that the breaks could be repaired
and that they would not show in a shadowbox.
The closure works securely. I
assume that it is German silver because of the lack of tarnish. I do not have any heirs so I am offering the
purse for sale.
At the base of
the frame, the purse measures 2 3/8 inches across. From the top of the ring to the bottom of the
center drop bead, is 6 ½ inches.
I will only ship this purse in a small USPS Priority Mail box
with protection and insurance. The
shipping rate t includes insurance.
