We were all floating along in our own little Leave It to Beaver worlds, all cozy and well fed. It was an age when robots and space ships were almost exclusively children’s toys, and our national dream was that everything would be available to us at the push of a button. We weren’t yet aware that space aliens really existed; all of us except for a glass designer who apparently worked for Fostoria.

Don’t laugh. I was there, and I remember the 50s well. I also remember a few years later watching a little bleep in the sky named Sputnik pass overhead, too close for comfort to Greene County, Indiana – as far as we were concerned anyway.

Oops . . . I lost my train of thought for a second. What I meant to say was: This bon-bon reminds me of an alien creature. The rest of that jabber just fell out.

It is 10” long by about 5 ½” wide. There are no cracks, chips or other annoyances, unless you count what appears to be a factory flaw adjoining the ground bottom rim. I’ll show you a picture of it if I can.

The glass effervesces like crazy under black light.

My arrows point to that place on the bottom rim I mentioned. It is smooth and appears to be where the grinding of the bottom rim went slightly haywire. They evidently buffed it smooth at the Fostoria factory. It is hard to feel and near impossible to see unless you’re looking for it.

The rest of the description with more pictures continues below this memo about my two “Prime Directives:”

First: I never, under any circumstances, use a reserve, and everything starts at $9, sometimes even less. I never end auctions early.

Second: I rarely clean, repair, or otherwise monkey around with anything. Normally I push enough dust aside to note any flaws, but if I discovered it in some dusty attic, you can look forward to a little dust on it when it gets to your house. If it has a flaw or a wart, I’ll tell you about it.
So rest easy and have some fun. Why not place a little tiny bid right now so’s you don’t forget about it later.

Did I say the glass effervesces? That’s not what I meant. I meant to use that other word, which I can’t think of right now.

You’ll love it.

GOOD LUCK
