I was told that this is more than likely what is referred to as an occupational shaving mug and it is probably a rare find. Since the mugs were personalised with the owners name and graphics/scenarios that depicted the owner’s occupation–I am wondering because of the seal, if this person was not involved in some type of government type work. The name even sounded familar, so I researched as much as possible to try to identify the seal and name, but there is just too much information to sort through. I do know, of course, that E Pluribus Unum is Latin for “Out of Many, One.” I also know the olive branch and arrows denote the powers of peace and war.The shield has one star and there are three more stars behind the word;UNUM. Not sure what they represent. Name is fully legible as EUGENE CANTRIL. Bottom of mug is stamped in gold. It reads; ATLAS CHINA MADE IN USA WARRANTED 22 KARAT GOLD, so lettering is made with real gold as are the pinstripes, top and bottom. The top stripe is not as in good of shape as the bottom one, with missing paint in spots, but still very pretty and no chips or cracks. Mug has seen use but is still viable as what it was intended for–a shaving mug, because it can hold water without leakage. It would display very nicely. Seal and banner and lettering are still very legible and nice with minimal signs of age/wear/paint loss, although there is a little blue paint missing on the shield and a bit of scratch type loss on the Eugene Cantril part. But plenty of the gold paint lettering is left and the scratches through the gold lettering are minor and not all that distracting. I really wish I knew what the seal stood for unless it was just done out of patriotism. It reminds me of some type of congressional seal ot something governmental in nature. About 4″ tall.
