This is a large
early 20th century cased Billiard style Meerschaum pipe. The pipe
has been well smoked. The bowl
interior is in good condition showing no cracks, defects or loss. The bowl exterior is smooth and in good
condition showing light wear.
The stem is made
of amber Bakelite showing no exterior tooth wear. There is some color loss at the bit. I think that this might be a
replacement stem because the case logo reads “Real Amberâ€. But judging by the round draught hole,
it must be an old one. There do
seem to be some small interior fractures at the airway. They might be from the original
drilling. I suspect they wouldn’t
show except that they are darkened from use. The fractures do not extend to the outside. The tenon is glued into the shank and
the stem screws on. The stem
alignment is dead on.
The pipe
measures: 5.5†x 2†with a .75â€
bore.
The case is in good
condition. There is some leather
flaking along the seam edge. The
hinges and clasp function and are tight.
The interior looks very good.
It shows a little discoloration from the bowl. The logo reads: “Genuine Meerschaum Real Amberâ€.
