Gorgeous antique Georgia era British gold and coral bracelet. Inscription on back of bracelet is as follows, “A.G. 8th April, 1824.” Family believed the bracelet was in honor of a family member who died in the British Burmese war starting in January 1824. Bracelet was given to wife of A.G. (ARNOLD GARRAHAM), before he left for war against the Burmese Empire in N.E. India. Britain was consolidating control of India , and the decisive battles were in 1824.

Arnold Garraham died April 8th 1824. He was only in India 4 months, and never made it back to Carlisle England. His wife was named Isabella, and she lived until 1860 but never remarried. This Sweetheart bracelet was handed down in the family for a quite a few generations. I am sure it was restrung over the years. The coral is in great condition, and it appears to be strung on gold colored wire.

It is in fabulous and really fantastic condition. You can wear it right away. The clasp is strong and there is not any sign of wear. The carving is thick and exacting. I am sure the bracelet was worn by Isabella for a very short period, and taken off and put on a shelf after the demise of Arnold Garraham. This bracelet was made in England and our jeweler has tested the entire bracelet. From 3 part gold clasp, and it tests as solid almost 15k gold. So solid 14k yellow gold for sure. There is no marking other than the inscription of, A.G. 8th April, 1824.

There is a sweetheart heart shaped locket, with original hair in locket. This was common when the The Somerset Light Infantry (Prince Albert’s) went off to conquer the world. Arnold was a junior officer in the Somerset Light Infantry, according to the remaining elderly family member. Gold bracelets were left as mementos of undying love for their sweethearts, who waiting patiently in the heart of the British Empire, for the return of their betrothed.

I can not find any fault with the gold work. Great patina and deep high relief gold carving. Almost French style of high relief gold work from the Georgian era of 1824…. That is 188 years ago., Holy Cow. 188 years ago. That is when the sun never set on the British Empire.

This mesmerizing gold and red coral bracelet weighs approx. 20 grams. The gold clasp weighs approx. 8 to 10 grams, I would estimate. So at 14k gold, that is considerable gold weight. Just an absolutely breathtaking work of gold and red coral art. The coral is comprised of 5 strands of 3-4mm round red/orange coral beads. Attached to 14k gold jump rings at each end of the clasp. No wear. Strung on wire and very strong.

It is in such wonderful condition, that it can be worn at any time. The clasp is strong and the closing mechanism, and hinges are in perfect working order.

Bracelet is 7-1/4 inches long. Clasp is approx. 3/4 of an inch wide. Heart is approx. 1/2 inch in diameter . We can have our jeweler lengthen or shorten the bracelet if needed, for a nominal fee.

WOW, What a perfect MOTHERS DAY BRACELET!!!

Museum quality piece. I can not vouch for any changes over the years, as jewelry is always adapted for the current era it is worn. What is so wonderful about this bracelet is that it is so strong and shows no sign of wear. It Can be worn with out any concern. It needs to be loved and adored, worn and enjoyed. Not put away in a collector’s showcase.

The coral bracelet came from England to the decedents in Seattle. They had immigrated at turn of last century.. Last family members sold the bracelet sadly. Now it is time to start a new history for the almost 200 year old gold and coral treasure. I would guess the bracelet has been restrung over the years, but this is how family received the bracelet

I wonder who was King in 1824?? Way before Queen Vicky took the throne for almost 100 years.

The gold work is impeccable and has gold robust patina to die for. The gold and hair heart shaped locket can be converted to a picture locket easily. So do not miss this bracelet. I can guarantee you will be the only one at work wearing a gold bracelet made in 1824. wow, here is a heritage bracelet to hand down to your favorite Grand Daughter. I wonder what it will look like,
IN THE YEAR OF POUR LORD IN CIRCA 2124???
