Highly decorative antique lacquered bronze vase inlaid with mother of
pearl.
This gorgeous late 19th century bronze lacquered vase dates from the
Meiji period (1868 to 1912).
The fine decoration on the vase is of a river scene with pagodas willow
and a fisherman with mount Fujiama in the background.
The top rim is silver.
There are no dents or damage to the vase and all of the mother of
pearl is intact and undamaged.
However there is discolouration in several places on the back of the
vase.
And a few very minor scratches.
The base has a tiny flake of lacquer missing and still retains its
original mirror black lacquer as it has not been exposed to the elements.
I am somewhat surprised that this magnificent vase is not signed as in
my opinion it most certainly deserves the signature of a master craftsman.
This vase is not cloisonne as there is no wire used but it is very much
in the style of cloisonne.
