These are vertical needle attachments so although they were made for the Singer 27 model and other Singer treadles machines, the presser feet fit the 66, 201, 221 featherweight and other vintage Singer vertical needle machines. The following photo shows all items that are included.See many pictures and a video of this box and attachments below. If you’d like it for a mother’s day present, I plan to ship it the day after the s and I included Priority Mail option.
Oak Box.
The oak box is in good condition on all sides.
The mark is engraved with the Singer patent mark of 1889. And it is high quality with dove-tail ends.
Inside, the original purple felt is in exception condition. It is the best I’ve seen. While in many puzzle boxes the felt is torn and worn at the folding seams, you can see this felt is excellent in the flat and fold areas. I lightly brushed the felt to remove any dust for it. It looks great.
Puzzle Shape.
This box is in 4 sections that fold together. The clasp works well to secure it closed.
Attachments.
The puzzle box has many original attachments Your box has the main items including all 6 binders, tucker, ruffler, plate, guide, bias cutting guide, and other attachments. The presser feet attachments are straight needle attachments which fit the 27, 28, 127, 128, 66, 99, 201, 221, and other vintage straight needle Singers.
The attachments are nearly complete. Compare it to the picture of the attachment case of the Singer 27. The picture below is from a manual in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. This box is indeed a collectible antique.
Inside the box are several metal mounting pieces to help hold the attachments. The box is vintage and the metal mounts have been holding attachments for about 100 years, so you might bend some to clamp tighter if you’d like. I did not bend any as most seem straight and in the right position. Some of the mounts were made with divots that go into holes in the attachments.
Clean.
I carefully cleaned the attachments with a soft cloth. The tucker and ruffler both have moving parts, so I cleaned and oiled them. All attachments are vintage and most are perfect, while a few have a few spots of corrosion on them. These attachments are better than most that I’ve seen. In the change from the first to the second photo below, showing how the bars of the tucker and the ruffler both work well for adjusting tuck or ruffle size.
Video.
You can see how this box opens in the video I made for you. I put the video on YouTube, so you won’t have to download any files.

Additional Items.
In addition to the attachments in the box, this setup also includes several other items including a shuttle bobbin case in , three vintage “new†Singer needles, and a wood needle case. I’ve also included a very soft brush you can use to keep the felt clean. Also included is a reduced copy of several pages of instructions for using the attachments.
Straight Needle Machines: 27 plus 66, 201, 221, etc
These sewing attachments work well on the straight needle Singer machines. Below, I am showing how to use one of the binders. I am sewing with it on my Singer 221 featherweight, a straight needle machine like the 27. The presser feet work the same on all straight needle machines (the bobbins and plate may not fit all).
First, put the round bar of the binder into the presser foot mounting piece and tighten the thumb screw (both are included in this puzzle box). (Note: when looking for a puzzle box with attachments, make sure this small attachment piece and that it has the thumb screw on the back; it is critical for using the 6 binders.)
Replace your straight stitch foot with the binder foot on your straight needle machine. I turn the wheel once to catch the thread and I pull the thread down through the needle hole so it is not on top of the foot. Pull the fabric you want to bind into the foot and the clothing fabric below it. The foot will guide the binding as you sew it.
Condition.
These are antique sewing machine attachments and box. They have marks, scratches, and a few corrosion spots on them from normal use and storage. I’ve included large photos for you to examine the condition yourself. They are from Colorado, where it is dry, so the felt and the attachments are in quite good condition for their age. I don’t detect any smell inside the box, which is nice as some old Singer boxes can have a musty smell.
Seller.
My Grandmother taught me to sew on her Singer in 1956 and I’ve sewn on them ever since. I sew on Singer 201 and 401 models most of the time, so I am good at sewing, but not an expert on the treadle 27 machine. If you have about these attachments, please ask. You will receive all the items shown below.
Packing.
I pack well; see my 100% website feedback. I will put padding inside the puzzle box as well as outside of it.
