You are a Rare Superb Original Set of Antique Prison Shackles Leg / Ankle – Hand Forged Irons (handcuffs). Circa 1800’s
Made of a very heavy metal/iron with a joining metal link chain, it is very moving to think what may have been in the minds of their Captives. No makers mark present. Only the number “115” is found engraved in to the key and one of the shackles. Unknown date of origination.Hinted to be Civil War era. The Original Key is present! There is wear, consistent with said age and use as you would expect but appear to be complete without damage. The key works, turning into the provided hole however I have not been able to open the actual cuffs. These have been stored within my museum closet until this moment of auction.
Approximate Measurements:
The inside space (opening) of the cuffs measure 3 3/4ths” wide by 2 7/8ths” in height. From the top of the metal ring that both chains attach to, creative a V, the overall measurement is approximately 25″ in length. Each chain approx. 20″ in length.
Item weighs approx. 3 lbs without packaging and shipping box.
These are the real deal. Such a genuine antique set of hand forged wrought iron shackles are a collector’s dream.
