We would like to offer up for sale this exremely RARE C.A.Stannards High Grade one gallon oil can from EMPORIA,KANSAS with really awesome train graphics on both sides. This fantastic find measures 10 3/4 inches x 6 inches x 3 3/4 inches and we think that this can is from as far back as the 1870’s because of the style of the train cars in the graphics and the way that the can is made with strong solid materials. The other side does have a dent in it which can be clearly seen in the picutures but we believe that this dent could easily be popped out by a professional! .The top of the can has a small handle that has solder around it to keep it on and the metal cap is rusted on as well. It does show everyday wear that would be applicable to the period. This can has no rust holes that go all the way through the steel. The can reads beneath the train.on either side”:ALL KINDS OF LUBRICATING OILS AND GREASES,BEST QUALITY AND LOWEST PRICES,DIRECT TO CONSUMER.WRITE TO ME FOR ANYTHING YOU WANT IN OILS, C.A. STANNARD.EMPORIA,KANSAS. There is a tiny mark near the base of the can on only 1 side that reads, AM. CAN CO 69A 11-13-??. Yes, the last 2 digits have a small rust spot and are therefore unreadable, I tried to show this in picture #5. This oil can is one of the most wonderful advertising/oil antique tins that I’ve ever found in over 20 years in the business!I I did reasearch this but I could not find very much information that was helpful. Thank you for your interest in our auction,PLEASE ask before bidding, as with all of our items, this item is being sold on an AS IS basis.
