MID CENTURY MODERN Enamel Copper Bowl Edward Winter

 Mid Century Modern Edward Winter Enamel on Copper Bowl. Signed on the bottom center, Winter. Exterior of bowl is green enamel with white designs, interior of bowl is a blue/green/turquoise enamel. Bowl is 1 5/8″ high and 7 1/4″ across the top rim. Bowl is in very good condition, with no cracks breaks or repairs.No loss of enamel, on exterior or interior. There are some minor shatter lines/webs /crazing under the glaze on the interior enamel of bowl. Does not effect the looks, and could very well could be original from the making.


Edward Winter (1908-1976) is a very important figure in the history and art of enameling in the United States.  He studied at the Cleveland School of Art, graduating in 1931. Later he traveled to Vienna where he studied enameling and metalwork with Josef Hoffmann after which he became committed to enameling as his medium, executing designs in a modernist aesthetic.  Winter won numerous prizes for his beautiful and well-respected enamels and wrote several books on the subject of enameling.
