This is a Beautiful Vintage Hamilton 16 Size, 992E, “ELINVAR” in a “Rare, hard to find” Model #8 Wadsworth “BOC” = Bar Over Crown, 10K Gold Filled Case, Railroad Grade, Pocket Watch, with a Beautiful White Porcelain, Double Sunk, “Blind Mans HG = Heavy Gothic, Dial, with Beautiful Steel Blue Hands, and second hand. This is a Beautiful Lever Set/Stem Wind pocket watch! I checked the time on this watch with the clock on my computer, and it is right on! It has not gained or lost a full minute in 24 hours!
The Movement reads, HAMILTON WATCH CO., LANCASTER PA, 21 JEWELS, 992, DOUBLE ROLLER, ADJUSTED 5 POSITIONS, with the word “ELINVAR” under the balance wheel. Serial number 2601279 = 1936 production date. The Jewels are set in gold cups, With a Beautiful Gold center wheel. As you can see in the pictures this is a very pretty movement. This movement has been completely taken apart and cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner, then oiled, and greased and VERY carefully put back together! I was careful not to put any marks on this beautiful movement. The case has been cleaned and polished inside and out also, so you don’t have to worry about the added expense of having all of this done if you are the lucky winner of this Beautiful ELINVAR Railroad Pocket Watch!
The Dial is a beautiful White Porcelain, Double Sunk, HG = Heave Gothic,Dial. It has beautiful Steel Blue Hands, and second hand. The dial reads HAMILTON. This dial is in great condition. There are No hairlines, and one chip just over the 60 second mark. The front and back covers screw on and off nicely, very smooth! This Dial has also been cleaned, back and front, before being put back on the watch.
The Beautiful Hamilton #8 Wadsworth, BOC = Bar over Crown, case reads, WADSWORTH 10 K GOLD FILLED, PAT. 5-22-26. If you will notice, there is NO serial number in this case back. The case frame, and the bezel reads X4489. I have NEVER seen a Hamilton Wadsworth case with no serial number. Is this a factory mistake? I guess we will never know. Folks, if you are looking for a perfect case, then this case is NOT for you. This case as you can see was used. There is brassing on the bezel and back cover. It is hard to see as I have polished it, but it is there. I always use a nice jewelers rouge cloth on them after I have polished them, and they stay looking good that way. The Glass crystal is NEW. The Bow is nice and tight. The covers screw on and off so easy! It does have some of the normal dings, NO scratches that a watch will get while being worn working on the Railroad. All in all just one of the more BEAUTUIFUL “RARE” Hard to Find, gold filled Railroad Pocket Watches, and a BEAUTIFUL addition to any fine watch collection.
I am adding a link, written by Lindell V. Riddle, President and Founder of “IHC185”, on the Wadsworth case. This is a MUST read for all Wadsworth case lovers! It will also explain this #8Wadsworth “BOC” case for you. Enjoy!
