Guy Morse Brown Mini Hat Brim Flange Stand Block Millinery Tool

Guy

Make your own mini hats with this rare mini hat blocking stand from
Guy Morse Brown Hatblocks in the UK, whose great designs and fine workmanship
are well-known and sought after by milliners worldwide. This stand was custom made especially for
use with Guy Morse Brown’s incredibly popular ‘Midi’ range of mini hats, which can be seen
on this page:

It’s not for sale in their catalog, so this is your chance to buy the only one.

An essential but scarce tool for any milliner, a stand is used to hold a brim upside down, up off the work surface, so that you can block felt or straw onto the crown of the hat, then flip it over and insert it into the center of the brim block, then pull the edges of the material down over the brim block to shape the brim (also known as blocking-in-one). The stand allows enough vertical height for most crowns to be suspended in the center of the stand without touching the work surface so that it may dry without marring the material. Or, it can be used when you are blocking the brim alone as a separate piece (also known as blocking-in-two), to give some extra height so that it’s easier to handle and pull the material without smashing your knuckles into the tabletop (as I tend to do). Even for blocking-in-one, I find that working on a stand speeds up my production and leads to less back strain because I don’t have to stoop over to block. After blocking, the hat may be trimmed in as many different ways as you can devise.

This stand works well with all of Guy Morse Brown’s flange-style (with a hole in the center) Midi size brims for blocking-in-one or blocking-in-two, and most of the Midi crowns including the bowler, homburg, the CB106, and cowboy hat crowns, and any others they introduce to
the line in the future that are the right dimensions to fit into the stand’s center
hole. You might also try blocking the solid brim blocks (no center hole) on top of it, just for the extra height. Please note that it will not work for blocking-in-one with GMB’s Midi top hat blocks, as the tip of the crown is too wide to fit into the hole.

The stand measures about 4.5 inches tall, 10.75 inches long, and 9.5 inches wide. The center hole measures 6.5 inches long, and 5 3/8 inches wide. Made of sturdy, beautiful blond Tulip wood. The block is in , with only a couple of spots of minor discoloration. It’s clean and ready for you to use.

I’m a professional milliner, and after years of non-stop
searching, I have amassed a large collection of blocks, more than
I really need for my own use, so I’ve decided to sell a few, but I can’t
imagine making hats without them in a range of styles and sizes. I am listing a number of head forms, poupees and other hat blocks this week, as well as a collection of Art Deco jewelry and other vintage oddments, see my other listings for more info. , I’d be happy to answer
them.
