The 8 day 3 weight driven movement is attached to the case and has the very rare function of Grande Sonnerie striking on two rod gongs.The clock will strike every quarter so the time can be heard. For example at 7.30 the clock will strike twice on one gong and seven times on the other gong, at 7.45 it will strike 3 and 7 and at 8 O’Clock it will strike 4 and 8. This manner of striking dates back to the times prior to electricity when the clock was in a different room and the occupants could tell the time by sound, and is also referred to as a “blindma’s clock”. Obviously the movement had to be made to the very highest standards and as such were very expensive resulting in comparatively few being made.
This particular clock was sourced from a private collector and is in really excellent untouched condition,ready to go straight on the wall.
The images accurately reflect the item (PLEASE LOOK AT THEM CAREFULLY AS THEY ARE PART OF THE DESCRIPTION) which has the kind of finish,color and patina that re-finished clocks simply cannot attain.
The case is solid walnut and retains its original patina. This clock has front beveled glass and the much sought after “SLIMLINE ” design which is a VERY RARE design!!The case is only 11″ wide!! 13″ at the top!!
The 7.5″ porcelain dial is in EXCELLENT, condition w/ no cracks or fractures and sits on the original GUSTAV BECKER mount, however the wieghts have a few dings on them as would be expected of a clock of this age. The 6″ pendulum is in EXCELLENT condition as well.
It is very large 42″ x 12″ and will be shipped in 2 packages. This will save on shipping, as i can ship the wieghts usps and will also keep the glass safe. It will be packed w/ care to insure safe delivery.
As can be expected when dealing with a clock, especially an antique key wound, some adjustments may be needed, after shipping, to get the clock re-running correctly again.
