19th Century Landscape of Figures and Cattle by a Stone Bridge

Provenance: Barford Park, nr Bridgwater, Somerset
This fine English oil on canvas landscape dates from the first half of the 19th century. It depicts two figures greeting each other in the foreground with cattle in the midground crossing a stone bridge, all set against a backdrop of the distant mountains. It is painted in a style closely associated with the English landscape painter William Havell (1782-1857). The painting is in good overall condition and comes in a period gilt frame which has various chips and flaking to the sides and would benefit from a little restoration, depending on personal preference.
This painting formerly hung at Barford Park, Spaxton near Bridgwater in Somerset, the home of the Stancomb family. It is a charming scene full of interest with a lovely early feel about it that you would expect from a painting of this period.
