Fine ANTIQUE 1800’s Faux Tortoiseshell Veneered Sewing Etui/Necessaire & Tools
Item Description; Fine Antique, 1800’s ‘faux’ tortoiseshell rectangular sewing etui/box, partially fitted with tools. The box has a silver cartouche to the lid, engraved with initials. Opens to reveal a velvet lined fitted interior, containing a few sewing tools. The scissors are silver handled and hallmarked for Birmingham 1900, makers mark is L.S. The scissors are in lovely order, and not original to the box. The scissor sheath and tweezer/ear wax spoon appears to be the original. The mother of pearl stilletto is a replacement also.
Measurements;Measures 5 & 3/4 inches by 4 inches by 1 inch approx.
Condition; The condition is reasonably good used antique order. There are several areas of silver wire inlay missing. One of the hinges appears to have been repaired. [The box is secure and hinges strong]. The veneer around the hinges has wear, cracking and splits, small glue repairs. Some chips at the corners. The interior is lacking some fabric lining to the bottom of two recesses, one for the thimble and the other for a tape measure. Tweezers are a bit mishapen. Please see photos.
