This is an Antique Presentation Cane / Walking Stick featuring a 10 K Yellow Gold Head which is designed with chased , foliate , decoration and inscribed ” D. Schmeer vom Syracuse Turn Verein Sept. 30TH , 1881 ” . I was able to do a little bit of research on the internet and believe that this cane was presented to Daniel Schmeer . Daniel Schmeer was a manager of the Turn Verein in Syracuse , New York during the 19th century . The Turn Verein was a sort of social club for German immigrants and German Americans . I am certain that there is much more to learn about this piece from a historical standpoint . There is still a strong German presence in the Syracuse area . Maybe someone amongst them would be interested in preserving this artifact . Although it is apparently not marked with a quality touch-mark it tests at 10 K Gold . I do not know what the Gold weight is as the Cane Head is still attached to it’s Ebony shaft . The chased design is quite elaborate and deep . The condition of the piece is not too good as the shaft is broken and the bottom 6 inches ( or so ) are missing . The Head is fairly well dented as you will note in the images that I posted . The Head measures 2 inches long by 1 1/4 inches in diameter at it’s widest point . the shaft below the Head is about 24 inches long . It is my hope that the piece will sell to a person that is interested in it for it’s historic significance to the early German immigrants of Syracuse.
