Extremely Rare Antique MASONIC DAGGER 1860 – 1890
: this great rarity > an original 19th Century Masonic dagger with skull, crossbones and an etched blade.
These daggers were used in Masonic rituals and are seldomly found these days.
The dagger has an overall length of 400 mm (15.7 Inches) and the length of the blade is 290 mm (11.4 Inches).
The pommel of the dagger has been shaped as a skull.
The skull has 2 red pieces of glass/stone for eyes.
It`s grip is made of wood, most likely ebony, which has been turned for better grip.
There is some minor damage to the grip (see picture).
The crossguard depicts a pair of crossed bones.
All brass parts (skull and crossbones) are gilded and have approx. 60% of the original gilded finish.
The blade is etched with Masonic symbols.
This blade shows a great deal of these symbols although there is some wear.
The word “Memento Mori” can be decyphered.
Also the “all seeing eye”, the Masonic star and tools can be found on this blade.
There is some pitting on the blade and the etching is visible for 40%.
