Most exquisite antique 1800’s Victorian
Silk wedding dress with bustle back ~!
This auction is for a most beautiful antique wedding gown. With a bit of cleaning & restoration work, this can probably be worn once again. The color of this silk organza? is an off white. It drapes and falls beautifully as you can see. The front bodice features handmade lace down the front with beautiful mother of pearl button closure. It it’s day it originally had a lace collar. You will need to replace this as it was likely removed for another dress in need. The 3/4 lenth fairy like sleeves feature hand made lace inserts. The tiniest gathering of tucks down the front bodice on either side and down the center back. There is the typical waist ruffle that gently tucks into the gown’s skirt. This Victorian wedding dress is two piece with the original skirt’s ruffled silk lining being as-is and thus removed…seen on hanger in photos. The dress can be worn with a simple long silk slip. The skirt features a front panel of pleating which scoops off the each side. There are three rows or wide horizontal pleats along the lower skirt. The back skirt was designed to accomodate a wire bustle as there is tons and tons of gathers in back. You do not have to wear one and instead the extra length will create a short train. hook & eye closure at back waist. This is a most spectacular piece of antique wedding clothing….a true Victorian treasure! The following flaws are noted: Lining has been removed from the skirt due to silk tearing of the lining. You will need to tack down one skirt hook. The lace collar is missing so you will need to redesign the neckline. The dress does need to be gently cleaned as there may be a bit of age yellowing and very, very light age spotting. No obvious, major stains and no damage found….this is a beauty! It is a harder to find larger size also…please see measurements and check carefully as all sales are final on antique clothing. If you have never bought vintage…please do not expect perfection as you would find in a bridal salon.Be sure to expect possible flaws as well as authentic Victorian beauty & charm. This elegant 1800’s gown measures as follows:
Blouse top
Bust: 36 inches
Tucked waist: 28 inches
Underarm to lower hemline: 9 inches
Bustle skirt
Waist: 28 inches
Side seam: 44 inches
For serious collectors and lover’s of antique clothing, this is true Victorian treasure~!
