Earliest Eames swivel dowel 1951 herman miller ZENITH
An incredible example of the earliest Eames swivel dowel for Herman Miller / Zenith.
This is a beautiful piece in incredible original condition.
Walnut dowels with original resin feetpads.
What makes this a very special chair is that the swivel dowel is the very first example put out for production.This is evidenced by the continuous “x” that runs from the seat tabs through the swivel.This was only produced in the very first month of production and is very rare. Later examples are four individual tabs rather than two overlapping pieces.
The elephant hide shell is in very good condition.
Some slight scuffing at the back that you can see in photos. this can be buffed off, I just left it in as is condition which is beautiful.
Full Zenith checkerboard label. Nice rope edge, and all original hardware and finish throughout.
