Chip Carved Wood ‘Grandfather Clock’ Pocket Watch stand ca1800s

A beautiful original example of a Pocket watch stand, fashioned to resemble a grandfather or similar floor clock in miniature. At days end a gentlemans pocket watch could be hung inside the box housing at top to fill the circular hole and resemble a clock in miniature! Similarly an actual clock movement might be easily fitted if desired- however I’m confident this was made to house a pocket watch, as I’ve seen similar examples before.
This is superbly ‘chip’ carved in fine and intricate detail as shown, with some unusual and difficult cuts within the finer detailing. These were generally folk carved items so expect a little roughness in the finish and boxed construction. Remains in excellent order however with just a couple of old chips been in-filled with a discreet putty or similar, to left hand side panel only and not even noticed on display. The little hook that would have hung the watch inside is also missing (an easy replacement if desired)All shown in close ups in the pics for 100% clarity.
Height of the clock is 17 inches (43cm) A delightful and beautiful piece of carving and a fine curiosity for the watch or clock collectors.
