Big Antique Elgin Men’s Pocket Watch.
This antique Elgin pocket watch is 18 size (case diameter 55 mm). This is a “Private Label” watch that was made for a jeweler, S. W. Fellows, in Lawrence, Mass. and is so marked on the movement and on the dial. The case is nickel silver (“Silverode”) with screwback and screwbezel. The case is very nice but could be polished if you like shine. Also note there is a date crudely scratched into the inside of the case back. The crystal is a new and perfect unbreakable replacement. The movement is nickel and has 11 jewels. Movement condition is very nice as you can see. If you need to find fault, you will see that some of the black has come out of the lettering. Easy to replace. This is a pendant set watch. The dial is porcelain and has several REALLY faint hairlines. Elgin private label watches are pretty scarce, and this is a nice one with matching dial. This watch dates to about 1890.
This watch runs and keeps reasonable time, but please be aware, I do not know the service history of this particular watch. This watch may, or may not, need to be cleaned and oiled soon.
