A Beautiful Antique Late Victorian/Early Edwardian (Belle Epoque Era) Black Lace Trained Skirt dated to between 1900-1905 – Size (XS-XL)

Description

This skirt  was part of an ensemble, but sadly the bodice is missing now. The skirt is made of a fine black muslin type cotton underskirt and a fine cotton overskirt with many pin tucks and broad machine-made lace and cotton flounces (it is pitch black in colour – the photos are lighter to show the lace detail). It dates to what I also call the Frilly Era, the Belle Epoque, when ladies fashions were terribly feminine and well, frilly (please see the last photos of fashion
plates showing similar skirts
from 1900-1904 – this also shows the correct S-shaped silhouette that was fashionable at the time). The skirt has a 4″ long train. It has no closure at the moment, but an black elastic band was inserted into the waist band. Originally this was a cotton band (this ought to be replaced with a cotton band again) and there were also hooks and eyes on the back (this opening was closed and the hooks and eyes removed – I would also re-open this closure and add the hooks and eyes again for accuracy, but I like my clothes to be period correct). The skirt is machine sewn.

The skirt is probably a modern size UK 6-18 or even 20 (EU 32-46, US 4-16 or even 18) (but please check the measurements to be certain) and its measurements are as follows (measured when lying flat):

Length: 35″ (front); 39″ (back)

Waist: max. 17.5-18″ (ca. 35″-36″ all around) (this is the maximum width without an cotton tie inserted, but please note that a cotton tie ought to be inserted into the waistband again and the skirt adjusted to whichever waist width is required)

Width at hem: ca. 55″ (ca. 110″ all around) (difficult to measure with all the flounces)

The skirt appears to be in perfect condition (see photos). I could not find any faults.
