You are a Beautiful Antique 19th Century French Carpet Painting.
Description:
This wonderful gouache on paper painting was created in France during the 19th Century and used in the development of woven carpet.
This type of painting is referred to as a mis-en-carte. It was painted over a printed grid, which served as a guide for the weavers to follow
and adds an element of interest to the design.
This painting features meandering floral vines and larger, partial floral bouquets seen on the left and right sides.
The colors are red, golden rod, orange, taupe, olive, blue, rose/red and black on cream colored paper.
This painting measures 21 1/2 inches in width x 24 inches in length.
This painting would look wonderful framed!
Condition:
This is an antique painting.
There is surface dirt throughout this piece as well as a few small holes and tears that have been repaired with tape from the back.
There are tears in the lower left corner as well as a hole.
