Coutil Corset
Another wonderful piece of history. You are a late Victorian 1899 corset. It still has the complicate pattern for a real waist intake of the that time, and already the longer cut to enclose the hips, as it became fashionable in the later Edwardian time period.
The is corset is the proof that a waist size of 18 inches is not just a rumor but really existed at that time .
My mannequin waist is not tall enough as you can see on the backside.
The corset is in absolute pristine museum condition. The white creamy silk fabric with flower ornaments is still strong, and, if you have the figure, still wearable. The boning consists of 16 small steal stays, and four half inch steal bones.
The measurements: 18 (!) inch waist, 30 inch bust and 32 inches around the hips. Front length 16 inches, back 18 inches.
The corset features six garters, which are fully functional.
