A really lovely 5.25″ long, antique Stanhope magnifying glass with a bone handle. The Stanhope is at the end of the handle and has Scenes of Cleethorpes with a title of “A Memory of Cleethorpes” in the centre of the image. Around this are a further 6 images depicting two images of the Docks at Grimsby, the Pleasure Ground, the Pier, Cleethorpes from Filey and the Promenade and Station. At a guess, from the images, the piece probably dates to just into the turn of the century so the early 1900s. The magnifying glass is also in lovely condition with only a few very light surface marks but it works well as a magnifier which is approx 2″ diameter. There looks to be a tiny touch of welding surplus where the handle adjoins the magnifier so there may have been a very small repair but this is not at all noticeable and there is no damage I can see. The Stanhope image itself is nice, clear and clean.
