You are
a beautiful Spanish Colonial period silver cup (1600 AD – 1700 AD);
typical of those used to serve Chocolate.
These cups
were made from melted Spanish Colonial coins, and others with silver
overlay. Silver being so abundant during the Spanish colonial period that it
was used on horseshoes, as well as for ballast on ships sailing from the New
World.
The cup
is very nicely engraved, and the handle is quite ornate and also engraved. The
condition is very good to near excellent; with a few minor dings, best seen in
the pictures above.
It is 5
inches tall, and the base and opening are each approximately 3 inches in diameter.
It weighs 237 grams, and the Patina is original.
For an additional fee of $100.00, we will provide a Certificate of Authenticity,
if requested by the winning bidder, as to the age of the piece and the description above; signed by Dr.
Carmen San Pedro, the retired former Curator and Director of the Museum of
Decorative Arts in Havana, Cuba; now living in Miami.
