19th Century Silverplate Nut Shaped Sweet Meat Covered Dish on a Pedestal Base. The silver dish is in the shape of a nut or melon with a curved stem. The dish has swirling grooves that have a tiny herringbone pattern. The stem of the dish is branch shaped, which flares out at the base. The base has branch and leaf shapes. The leaves on the base have the tiny herringbone pattern. The cover is hinged. The piece is signed in script on the top of the base at the end of a branch, “Y. Philipp”. I will add a photo of the signature.
SIZE: 5 3/4 inches high x 3 1/4 inches wide x 6 inches long.
CONDITION: Consistent with age, the dish shows wear and tarnish. The cover does not sit perfectly on the bottom part. The top of the dish has discoloration and wear with a slight dent.
A nice, unique old sweet meat dish.
