Antique
Mauchline Ware Thimble Egg
Circa
1880 * Scottish
This little
Mauchline
ware egg is made of sycamore wood and has a scene entitled “Entrance to
Pier, Southport”. It was
made
by
the
W. & A. Smith Co
in Mauchline Scotland.
Inside is a needle case post holding a steel top sterling silver
English thimble.
The surface has some tiny dings at the edges where it fits together,
but the
overall condition is good and the varnish is intact. It
measures slightly over 2″ long.
The
thimble tests sterling
silver and has a steel top. It has a faceted rim and a wrigglework
engraved band. It was made before English silversmiths were required by
law to hallmark and pay duty on small silver items. It is in nice
condition with no
holes or repairs and is
about
an American size 9.
I stand behind
everything that I offer and guarantee that it is exactly as
presented.
