Antique Mantle Clock Topper Spelter Statue Greek Goddess of Agriculture Demeter

Antique Mantle Clock Topper Spelter Statue Greek Goddess of Agriculture Demeter

Antique

An antique mantle clock topper or stand alone statue of Demeter; the goddess of agriculture, especially wheat and fertility. The statue
is approximately 6-3/4″ tall x 8″ wide and shows Demeter seated, dressed a long flowing gown with a wreath of flowers in her hair, holding
a bunch of wheat in her left arm. The right hand is cupped and has a hole through the center to hold a separate scythe, the scythe is
missing. The casting has some intricate details from the flowers in her hair to the toes on her feet. The hollow casting is a white metal
as viewed inside, presumed spelter. The outer surface has a darker finish which appears to be the original. It is a little dirty and has
some wear to the finish on some of the high points. There is a break in the handle of the spade so that the blade at the end will swivel
because it is only held in place by a wire running through the center of the handle. There are also splits in the two lower rear posts
which hold the lower bunch of wheat. The rear section is bent upward about 1/4″ which makes the statue not sit flat, i.e. the womans
front foot is up about 1/4″ when sitting on a flat surface. Please take a close look at the 12 detailed pictures. Whether you decide to
repair or not it is still a great looking statue. The statue weighs 1 pound 10 ounces.

This statue will add a touch of elegance to any room in your home…whether mounted upon a clock or standing alone!
